Every year Central Vigilance Commission, Govt. of India observes Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) through various Govt. / Private organisations and Public Sector Undertakings, with a purpose to inculcate awareness in the public at large about the ill effects of the corruption in the society. Corruption can be defined as the dishonest or unethical behaviour of individuals in positions of authority, undertaken to benefit themselves or others. It is a global issue that impacts various segments of society. Corruption erodes political development, democracy, economic progress, the environment, public health, and much more. Thus, it is essential to sensitize and motivate the public to work together in eradicating corruption.

Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) is celebrated in the birth week of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as ‘Iron Man of India’ for his unwavering integrity. In line with the Government of India's vision for a New India, the Central Vigilance Commission, as the nation's foremost integrity authority, undertakes various initiatives to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability in public administration.

The observance of Vigilance Awareness Week is a crucial component of the Commission's multifaceted approach. One of its primary strategies is to foster collective participation by all stakeholders in the fight against corruption and to raise public awareness about the existence, causes, gravity, and the looming threat of corruption.

This year, the Central Vigilance Commission has chosen to observe Vigilance Awareness Week from 27th October 2025 to 2nd November 2025, under the theme " सतर्कता: हमारी साझा ज़िम्मेदारी, ", "Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility."

The adoption of e-governance, procedural reforms, reduced discretion, minimized public interactions, technology-driven procurement, and automation can significantly reduce corruption. The Commission, therefore, advises all organizations and departments to identify and implement effective preventive measures to combat corruption and enhance transparency and accountability in their functioning.

The purpose of Vigilance Awareness Week is to raise awareness among the general public regarding the adverse effects of corruption and to encourage collective efforts to combat it. Being a responsible organisation and as a part of this social awareness initiative, Bank of Baroda is also organising various events throughout the country through its wide spread network of Branches and Offices.
